So with Tesla releasing the Tesla Roadster, An electric sports car that can run at 0 to 60 in under 4 seconds and a range of just under 400 kilometers, you would be forgiven thinking that this was the peak of of the story but no this is just the starting point. There is so much more to come and Tesla's influence, as you'll find out has spread into many of the world lead car companies.

Ford C-Max -- How can a crossover possibly be exciting? Well, when it features an EcoBoost four cylinder engine, dual-clutch transmission and three rows of seats, the Ford C-Max shouldn't have much difficulty turning heading. And if that isn't enough, the Focus platform based model, itself updated for 2012, should compare favorably with the Mazda5, the segment's darling model.

We are at the dawn of a new era in automobiles. The electric car revolution is on the horizon and you would be surprise just how much that revolution is due to a small start up near silicon valley called Tesla Motors. This small start up has started to gain some big friends, and this is the recent story.

What the Auto Press Says
The automotive press is nearly unanimous in calling the Model S a beautiful car and an ambitious design. The company's performance claims for the car are extraordinary, putting it on par with the best performers in the large luxury car class, but no one has test driven the Model S.

The company's second effort is intended to be more mainstream in every way. The Model S is a four-seat sedan with an intended price tag around $50,000, after federal tax credits that may save buyers as much as $7,500. The vehicle uses the same electric technology as the Roadster, promising sporty performance for a large car. It may be offered with several different battery packages, varying in price and driving range. The company says it will deliver the car in 2011, and had already accepted orders for more than 500 Model S sedans within one week of announcing plans to build the car. But so far the car exists only in concept form, and no factory has been built or engaged to manufacture it.

Cadillac ATS -- Finally, an all new baby Cadillac hits the market in the form of the ATS. Like the larger CTS, this car will be powered by its rear wheels and be offered in sedan, coupe and, if we're lucky, cabriolet body styles. The Cimarron and Catera, earlier unsuccessful Cadillac forays into the compact car market, will likely be forgotten when the ATS hits. Powered by turbocharged 14 engine, this Caddy will take on the BMW 3-Series, Mercedes C Class and Lexus IS. Expect a late 2011 arrival for the all new Caddy

According to Forbes magazine, Tesla has raised $147 million from investors so far, with some $55 million coming from Musk, the automaker's founder. Delays in shipping the Roadster have hurt the company's financial picture as only fifty cars have been shipped thus far. Production has finally been increased with Tesla saying that as many as ten Roadsters per week are now being assembled. A tiny amount, but then we're talking about a minuscule operation.
Roadster Interior - NA
Auto writers find many faults with Roadster's interior cabin -- including its pain-in-the-butt seats. According to Car and Driver, "Only people with titanium vertebrae will want to drive more than a couple hundred miles in a sitting." What's more, the Roadster's cabin is marred by a scant list of interior convenience features.

The Tesla Roadster easily travels more than 200 miles per charge in mixed driving conditions, consumes no petroleum and plugs into conventional 220-volt sockets throughout Europe. It can be fully or partially recharged by solar or wind power. A customer's Tesla Roadster recently set a world distance record for EVs with 313 miles on a single charge.

For its part, Tesla is reacting in several different ways. Elon Musk, the CEO of the company, is pouring ten to twenty million dollars of his own money into the company and has plans to lay off as many as 20% of the company's workforce. In addition, a satellite office in Michigan is being closed, moves that the company hopes will buy it some time as it searches for additional financial backing.
